Preminum Haiti Rums

When I think of Haiti, I am reminded of my sixth grade teacher Ms. Girtman. In 1968 at the segregated Peabody High and Elementary School in Eastman Georgia, Ms. Girtman taught our class about Toussaint Louverture and his role in the only successful slave revolt in the new world, leading Haiti to become the first free black republic in the world. independent country . My other thoughts of Haiti are their award winning Barbancourt rums.

I became acquainted with the Barbancourt rum when my friend who is of Haitian descent, would always bring me a bottle of the Barbancourt three star and a bottle of homemade Kremas when he traveled back to Haiti. For those not familiar with Kremas, it is a home made concoction consisting of rum, coconut, condensed milk and various spices.

Barbancourt rum is produced and bottled by Société du Rhum Barbancourt, T. Gardère & Cie. in Port-au-Prince Haiti. The company is one of Haiti's oldest and the rum is the Haiti most famous export. Barbancourt rums are widely regarded the finest rums in the world, having won many awards at numerous tastings competitions.

Barbancourt rum is double distilled, using a process similar to that used to produce cognac. Barbancourt is made directly from sugar cane juice rather than the sugar cane by-product molasses.

Barbancourt's Estate Réserve is aged for 15 years. This rum is extremely smooth and easily enjoyed on the rocks or straight. I enjoy just slow sipping this rum over ice. This rum retails at The Liquor Cabinet for just $39.99 plus sales tax.
